SPORTSnationalstitle goes to Coughlin

BELLE ROSE, La. -- Jeg Coughlin captured a victory in the Top Dragster division yesterday at the third annual JEGS.com NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals at No Problem Raceway Park in Belle Rose, La. In the final round, Coughlin drove his JEG'S Mail Order dragster to a 7.50 elapsed time to defeat Timmy Graves of Denham Springs, La.

"I was had a great time here at the SPORTSnationals and winning the race is just icing on the cake," said Coughlin. "My dragster was flawless all weekend. Even though the weather was hot and the track temperature was over 130-degrees on Sunday, my car was consistent. It was on a 7.44 or 7.45 pass in every round."

Ironically, Coughlin had never raced in the Top Dragster class before entering the Belle Rose race. Coughlin normally races his JEG'S Mail Order dragster in Super Comp, but made a last minute decision to try the Top Dragster class, which features a 32-car qualified field and a bracket racing format.

After qualifying 22nd, Coughlin was involved in several difficult elimination races prior to his final round win over Graves.

"Coming in here, I wasn't sure if I should run Top Dragster or Super Comp, but now I think I made the right choice," said Coughlin. "This year, I expect to be racing my dragster primarily at bracket races and I wanted to be able to make as many runs as possible on the full Tree."

Coughlin's Top Dragster win capped a successful weekend for the JEG'S Mail Order team. In addition to the victory, Jeg also earned a semifinal finish in Saturday's Mopar Performance Hemi Challenge race. Jeg's older brother, Troy also claimed a victory in Saturday's Didier Communications Top Sportsman Shootout event.

"This race has quickly become a favorite for our entire family and I'm sure a lot of other sportsman racers feel the same way," said Coughlin. "The atmosphere here is so friendly and the folks at No Problem Raceway do everything they can to make sure that everyone has a good time. The whole experience was really enjoyable and I'm already looking forward to coming back next year."
