Cannon targets points lead in Bristol
BRISTOL, Tenn. - It can be said that Jason Cannon and the Caps Coach & Trailer/InsideTopAlcohol.com Top Alcohol Dragster team have their eye on the prize going into this weekend's NHRA Division 2 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Bristol Dragway just outside of Bristol, Tenn. Cannon, who is currently second in Division 2 points, hopes a strong showing this weekend will pull him ahead of current points leader Tony Bartone.
Cannon, who with his father owns/operates Caps Marine and Caps Coach & Trailer in Middleburg, Fla., is coming off two straight final round appearances in Division 2 competition. This weekend the team hopes to put the car in the winner's circle.
"We had the car running strong in Reynolds," said Cannon. "We broke a valve in the final, and that pretty much did us in. Bristol will be an altitude race and the race will be run during the day on Saturday. Hopefully that will be right up our alley."
Cannon and crew chief Will Hanna have their eye set on 5.40's and low 5.50's this weekend.
"When I was working for Jay Meyer, we ran low .50's out here in July," stated Hanna. "[Marty] Thacker ran mid .50's out here last year, so it can be done. We ran low .60's here last year with ignition problems. We're really shooting for the low .50's during the day, maybe a .40 something Friday night. I think that's what its going to take to win."
Qualifying will be ran on Friday night with sessions at 6 and 9 p.m. First round eliminations will be at 3 p.m. Saturday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
