With Two Attempts Remaining, WJ is Fifth in Indy

Qualifying continued on Saturday at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, IN, with competitors in the POWERade Drag Racing Series logging their second and third of five total attempts on the Hoosier State quarter-mile. In the Pro Stock category, Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts Pontiac GXP Racing team continued their solid performance, logging competitive times on each attempt to earn the provisional fifth starting position.

After posting a competitive 6.692-second time in the morning session, WJ improved to a 6.668-second clocking in the afternoon, which came with a track record top speed of 207.88 mph. Heading into the final day of qualifying at drag racing's biggest race, Johnson looked to move even higher on Monday's final eliminations ladder.

"We had a decent day today with our GM Performance Parts GXP, wandering down there twice without hitting anything. It did get up a little higher than we would have liked in the early part of this afternoon's run, giving up a little bit when it bounced down in second gear.

"Still, it went pretty nice and straight both times, and based on the information we've gathered, I think we should be in good shape for tomorrow's morning session, when the conditions should be as good as they have been all weekend. I think we should be able to fix it and make it even better."
