WILK 10th, WILL NEED TO GO FAST TO BEAT JACK

Tim Wilkerson smoked the tires on his early run Sunday, and then came back with a solid A-to-B pass during the fifth and final qualifying session, although a dropped cylinder near the finish line kept the Levi, Ray & Shoup Shelby from improving and Wilkerson clocked in at 4.175. Wilk will enter the fray from the No. 10 spot on Monday, and will face "Fast Jack" Beckman in the opening round.

"The clutch just threw us a curve on the first one today, but the second one wasn't far from what we were trying to do," Wilkerson said. "I wanted to go out there and run from end to end, maybe put a 4.14 or something like that on the board, and it was probably on that pace until it dropped the hole down there in the last 100 feet or so. We can work with that, especially if it's hotter tomorrow like they say it will be.

"So this is it. First round of the playoffs and a monster match-up with a great driver and a very fast car. You have to be able to beat the best out here, if you think you're a contender, so we'll get our chance to do that in the very first round. We'll just try to make a solid lap, racing the lane like we always do, and we'll see who gets there first."
