ANTRON BROWN QUALIFIES FIFTH AT U.S. NATIONALS

CLERMONT, Ind. (Sept. 5, 2010) - Antron Brown drove his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the No. 5 qualifying position Sunday afternoon at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. The 24-time NHRA winner used a qualifying-best effort of 3.808-seconds to finish fifth in the 16-car order.

Brown entered the final day of qualifying for the 56th annual U.S. Nationals in the provisional No. 5 qualifying position after clocking a pass of 3.808 seconds at 319.22 mph on Friday evening at the Indianapolis-area track. On Saturday's first qualifying attempt, Brown's Matco Tools/U.S. Army rail overpowered the hot O.R.P. track and slowed to a pass of 4.655 at 160.79. The two-time U.S. Nationals Pro Stock Motorcycle winner (2000, '04) carded a solid lap at 3.907 at 313.22. It is the second time that Brown has qualified fifth this season (Seattle).

"Our DSR Matco Tools/Army dragster continues to run strong," Brown said. "Brian (Corradi) and Mark (Oswald) make a lot of horsepower, so we had to tame it down a little bit today to get down this hot ORP track. That last run was pretty darn good. We're very confident with the way our Matco dragster is running and have a great chance to bring it home on Monday."

Brown will face off against No. 12 qualifier Shawn Langdon in the opening round of eliminations at 11 a.m. (ET) on Monday at O.R.P. Brown is 3-0 against the former two-time Super Comp champ this season and 4-1 in five career matches.
