ANTRON BROWN FINISHES FIFTH SATURDAY AT U.S. NATIONALS

CLERMONT, Ind. (Sept. 4, 2010) - Antron Brown drove his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 5 qualifying position Saturday evening at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. The 24-time NHRA winner ranks fifth with a 3.808-second elapsed time.

Brown entered day two of qualifying at the historic Indianapolis-area track ranked second in the Top Fuel order after blistering the ORP strip in 3.808-seconds Friday evening under the lights. On Saturday's first attempt, the Matco Tools/U.S. Army rail clocked the third quickest pass of the session with a run of 3.858 seconds at 316.01 mph. Brown's DSR teammate Cory McClenathan was again the quickest Top Fuel car at 3.826-seconds. The Matco-backed team earned one bonus qualifying point. On Saturday's second attempt, the Matco rail posted the quickest 60-foot time at .832-seconds, but overpowered the track and slowed to a run of 5.357 at 128.04. Brown has qualified fifth one time this season (Seattle).

"We were going for it on that night run, it was go big or go home for our DSR Matco Tools team," Brown said. "It just missed it too. Let me tell you, if it would have stuck, we would have opened some eyes with that run. It's all good thought. We're in the show with that 3.80 from Friday night and now we can work on making two good, quick passes on Sunday and try to go some rounds on race day."
