BEGINS COUNTDOWN TO 1 PLAYOFFS AT HISTORIC MAC TOOLS U.S. NATIONALS PRESENTED BY LUCAS OIL

CLERMONT, Ind. -- The thrilling excitement and heart-pounding action of NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing returns to historic O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis for the 56th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, the 18th of 23 events in the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule and the first of six races in the Countdown to 1 playoffs.

Thousands of fans were in attendance last year to witness Top Fuel world champion Tony Schumacher race his U.S. Army dragster to his eighth U.S. Nationals win, tying legendary driver Don Garlits for the most wins at the prestigious event. Ashley Force Hood raced to her second win of the when she beat teammate Robert Hight in the final round. In Pro Stock, four-time world champion Jeg Coughlin raced to his third Pro Stock U.S. Nationals win, while eventual Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Hector Arana grabbed his third win of the season on his Lucas Oil Buell and first career U.S. Nationals win.

Many of the biggest names in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series will blast their way toward the finish line and keep the fans on the edge of their seats when the circuit returns to Indianapolis. Stars like fan-favorite John Force and his teammate, 2009 world champion Robert Hight will be among the drivers to watch in Funny Car. Top Fuel world champion Schumacher is looking for his seventh consecutive world title and eighth overall, but Al-Anabi Racing driver and arch rival Larry Dixon is currently leading the point standings and has claimed eight victories this season. As always, fans will have the opportunity to interact with their favorite drivers as they're granted an exclusive pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet.

* SCHEDULE: Full Throttle Series qualifying sessions are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, 3:00 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, and 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5. Final professional eliminations begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6.

* TELEVISION: ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD will televise sixty minutes of qualifying coverage at 10 a.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 5, as well as two hours and 30 minutes of qualifying at 11:30 a.m. (ET) and two more hours of qualifying at 5 p.m. (ET). ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD will also feature NHRA Race Day, a 30-minute pre-race show, at 11 a.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 5. On Monday, Sept. 6, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD will air five hours of eliminations beginning at 1 p.m. (ET)
