Indianapolis, Ind. (Sept. 3) - Today at the 46th Annual NHRA US Nationals, Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance Chevrolet S-10, assumed the 13th position on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder. Whisnant will race John Lingenfelter when eliminations get under way on Monday morning.

In the fourth session of qualifying Whisnant ran a 7.661 / 175.50 mph. to place his truck in the 13th position on the eliminations ladder. Although Whisnant earned a birth in the biggest drag race of the season, he is still unhappy with the way his truck performed here in Indianapolis.

"Right now I am a little disappointed," said Whisnant. "I feel like we should have qualified a little better than we did. We struggled with consistency this weekend, but that has been a problem for us all year.

"Right now the truck runs good on the top end, and not so good on the bottom end. It's funny, because when we were down on power earlier this year, we ran good on the bottom and not on the top. Just the opposite of what we are doing now. We have good power now. So I guess what we need to do now is put A and B together. Then maybe we will run like I know we should.

"Before the first session this morning, we made wholesale changes to the truck. It seemed to have helped. We pick up a little, but so did everyone else. We then used the night session to build on what we did in the morning.

"I think we will be alright tomorrow. There is only .058 of a second separating the number 1 qualifier from the number 16 qualifier. That will make this a driver's race. With tight field like this anyone can win.

"If I go out there tomorrow and do my job, and drive like I know I can, I think we will be alright. And with a little luck we may just get to stand in the winner's circle Monday night."

Eliminations at the 46th Annual NHRA US Nationals take place on Monday September 4 at 11:00 AM EST.
