WEICKGENANNT QUALIFIED 15th FOR ELIMINATIONS INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The qualifying rounds were not particularly kind to the B & B Racing fuel Funny Car team. Bob Weickgenannt and the Columbia, MD based team decided to sit out the final qualifying session, in the heat of the day, and hope their 5.231 second elapsed time at 235.72 MPH would hold up and get them to eliminations. Hold up it did as the team watched the cars behind them in the pack fail to make the show. When the last session was complete, the Variform, Velux and Tenneco sponsored entry was lodged in the 15th qualifying spot. Weickgenannt's first round opponent for Monday's eliminations will be Ron Capps.

After a disappointing first pass on Saturday that damaged quite a bit of equipment, it was a relief to make the show. "We've qualified at some tough races", said Weickgenannt, "but this was by far the most gratifying." Given the difficult conditions all weekend, it was an accomplishment. "It's not the fastest we've ever run, but the track is very tough and it's the toughest fuel Funny Car field of the season. Qualifying says a lot for this entire team - it was a team effort to get here."
