Indianapolis, Ind. (Sept. 2): One day after making the major announcement of their new U.S. Army sponsored Top Fuel dragster, it was back to business for the reigning Winston Championship team.

Schumacher and company wasted no time in showing the form that took the pole and win in Brainerd two weeks ago. While the heat caused the majority of the teams to struggle with high track temperatures, Dan Olson again worked his magic and threw down a 4.662 second pass at 314.75 mph. The run was .093 seconds quicker than the next best in the field and ended up the quickest of the day.

"We learned a lot in Brainerd and it helped us put together a win," said driver, Tony Schumacher, "Dan has proven time and again the ability to put a car down a tricky track."

In the final session of the day, Schumacher had to run the right lane. Competitors were well aware that it is a more difficult surface to negotiate. Schumacher's 4.747 e.t. was the second quick to No. 4 qualifier, Larry Dixon.

"We knew that down track we would lose some traction," said Schumacher, "in the left lane it probably would have been a .60 again without the tire haze.

Teams will have two final qualifying attempts on Sunday in preparation for Monday's final eliminations.

"We are getting ready for Monday," said Schumacher, "we are solidly in the field and chances are with the heat and humidity that we won't go quicker."
