Billy Harper Motorsports Heads to U.S. Nationals in Indy

PADUCAH, Ky. (August 27, 2001) - Billy Harper Motorsports will be making their next appearance in the heart of the Midwest at Indianapolis (Ind.) Raceway Park (IRP) for the National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA) 47th Annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. Mac Tools has hosted the event since 1961, and the weekend marks NHRA's largest and most lucrative competition of the season.

The Dodge Vipers of Billy Harper Motorsports will be part of the weekend's Pro Modified excitement, participating in the competition through invitation by the NHRA. 2001 marks the first season that the world's largest motorsports organization has invited the Pro Modified vehicles to participate in NHRA competition on an exhibition level. Billy Harper Motorsports has opted to participate in two of the five NHRA 2001 invitation events, the Sears Craftsman Nationals held at Gateway International Raceway (Madison, Ill.) in June and this weekend's events at IRP.

If Billy Harper Motorsports' performance at their last NHRA competition is any indicator of how they will stack up against the NHRA competition, the team should be a contender for the finals. At Gateway International Raceway, Billy Harper put his Dodge Viper in the final round of competition, facing off with some of the toughest competition entered into the event. The Paducah, Ky.-based team is confident their machines will rumble down the quarter-mile dragstrip of Indianapolis Raceway Park at a competitive speed.

"We have two great machines that we are taking to the competition," stated team owner and driver Billy Harper. "It is an honor to be racing in the U.S. Nationals. This is the biggest event in drag racing, and I am proud to be a competitor."

The team will begin competition this Friday with the first round of Pro Modified qualifying. Final eliminations will take place on Monday, September 3. Be sure to tune into ESPN 2 Monday at 11 a.m. EST to see the exciting racing action. For more information on Billy Harper Motorsports, log on to www.billyharpermotorsports.com.
