B&B TEAM CONTINUES GOOD SHOWING AT U.S. NATIONALS INDIANAPOLIS, IN - In a race that everyone felt would be a walkaway, Bob Weickgenannt and the Columbia, MD based B & B Racing fuel Funny Car team faced off against Ron Capps and fared well in the first round of eliminations at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, IN.
After qualifying in the #15 position for eliminations, the Variform, Velux and Tenneco sponsored entry found themselves paired against Capps, the #2 qualifier. Both cars left the line within three-hundredths on reaction time and were close until half track. Just past half track Weickgenannt’s entry hazed the tires and Capps motored by him for the win. Capps finished the race with a 4.953 second elapsed time at 310.23 MPH while Weickgenannt slowed to a 5.408 at 221.02 MPH. "It was nice to go out and give Ron Capps a run for his money, we were ready if he made a mistake. As you can tell by his ET, that car was running well and he outran us."
It was the end to a great weekend of racing for the B & B Team. The U.S. Nationals is always the largest and most competitive event of the season in all classes. "It’s always a tough field at this event - we feel we accomplished a lot by qualifying," said Weickgenannt. "It’s nice to compete against a team of the caliber of Ron Capps and the guys from Copenhagen, they’re one of the class operations out here."
The next event for the B & B Team will be the Keystone Nationals in Reading, PA the weekend of September 17 - 20.
