BAYTOWN, Texas - Federal Mogul Dragster driver Sergio Recio had an up and down weekend during the Matco Tools SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions at Houston Raceway Park. Recio debuted a brand new Y2K Brad Hadman chassis and qualified No. 16 with an elapsed time of 5.756 at 240.89 miles per hour, but killed his only engine in the process, taking him out of competition.
The El Paso, Texas, native still feels that the weekend was a positive outing for the Cash-n-Go team, given the results.
Recio said, "We kicked a few rods out, and hurt a couple of sleeves. With this new "rhino" block Fontana (engine), we could have replaced everything, but we didn't have any more sleeves. The car ran pretty good for it's first full pass, so we are happy."
>From Houston, Recio will move west to the Division 7 finale to be held at Firebird International Raceway just outside of Phoenix. Recio hopes to learn more about his new car for the 2001 season.
"We're going to go out there and try to figure the car out a little better," said Recio. "There's a lot more left in it, we real pleased with this new car Hadman built us."
