Baytown, Texas - - At the end of two of four qualifying sessions for the NHRA O'Reilly Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park, Bob Panella, from Stockton, Calif., holds the top spot and set a national elapsed time (ET) record of 7.420 seconds and a national speed record of 182.11 mph en route.

Panella reset his own national ET record of 7.428 seconds, which he established last October at Memphis Motorsports Park and also upped the speed mark of 181.08 mph set by Greg Stanfield, from Bossier City, La., just one week ago, during qualifying for the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.

Said Panella of his record run, "From a point standpoint it's great. It's 20 points that I didn't have when I came here. Or I should say, 20 points if I leave here with the record. Personally, it feels good to get our S-10 fast again. We've been fast, but we haven't been quick and fast at the right times. We've been working hard on both our trucks and we're starting to learn a little bit from one to the other. What (teammate) Jeff (Gracia) did in the first session actually help me to do what I did that run. Hopefully, we can repeat (the numbers) tomorrow and more importantly on Sunday.

"I think I personally can do better just because I'm in the right lane but Randy (Daniels) is also going to be right behind me, (Greg) Stanfield too. There's a bunch of trucks that can do what I just did. I felt I should be running that well, I just haven't been able to do it lately. Finally, everything is coming together. The S-10 is flying again and it feels good," concluded Panella.
