Force Wins For Eighth Time at Heartland Park Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 29, 2005) - Thirteen time NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny Car champion John Force is celebrating yet another victory at Heartland Park Topeka after defeating Iowa native Tommy Johnson, Jr. in the final pairing Sunday at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Summer Nationals.

Force has now won eight times in the 17 year history of this event, and the Castrol GTX Start Up Ford Mustang tore down the track at 4.809 seconds and 320.97 MPH. Johnson smoked the tires early in the run and went 8.167 seconds at 107.62 MPH.

For Force it was his third straight win in the 2005 POWERade Series after claiming titles in Atlanta and Columbus in consecutive weeks prior to coming to Heartland Park.

With the win the defending POWERade Series Champion extends his lead in the funny car standings to 127 points over his John Force Racing teammate Robert Hight.

Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, Championship OFF-Road Racing (CORR), and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) in addition to many other events throughout the race season.
