NATIONAL DRAGSTER CHALLENGE TO BE CONTESTED IN AUGUST

TOPEKA, Kan. (June 30, 2006) - What was a Saturday night drag race special is now scheduled for a full-day drag race at Heartland Park Topeka.

The original drag racing schedule had the ninth round of the 2006 E.T. Drag Race Series scheduled for an evening event on Saturday, August 12 but due to an opening in the schedule the event will become an all day drag race at the Heartland Park Topeka quarter-mile.

The race has also been designated as the "National DRAGSTER Challenge". Since 2002, National DRAGSTER, the weekly publication of the National Hot Rod Association, has presented its popular National DRAGSTER Challenge for E.T. bracket racers at NHRA member tracks. The winner of each event is rewarded with a special-edition pewter Wally trophy, the most coveted prize in drag racing.

All three regular E.T. Drag Race Series classes are scheduled to compete, along with Wednesday Street Showdown Motorcycle and Trophy classes. The August date will make up one Wednesday Street Showdown lost in early May to wet weather.

All five classes contested on August 12 will run for a coveted NHRA Wally.

Gates will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 12. Time trials will begin at 10 a.m., with eliminations scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m.

Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), and many other pro and amateur drag racing, road racing, and dirt racing events throughout the race season.
