Full Week of Activities Planned for NHRA Event in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kansas (May 23, 2005) - The 17th Annual NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals will rumble into Topeka over Memorial Day Weekend for the 17th consecutive year, and Heartland Park Topeka has a full week of activities planned for the POWERade Drag Racing Series' annual pilgrimage to Kansas.

The week begins on Tuesday, May 24 with the NHRA Hauler parade beginning at 6:00 p.m. The parade will begin at Heartland Park, and heads up U.S. Hwy 75 to 29th St. before touring north along Wanamaker Rd. The parade rolls north to I-70 and then to north US-75 through North Topeka, downtown, and back to Heartland Park Topeka. The parade should arrive Downtown at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Downtown Topeka, Inc. will be sponsoring a Hot Wheels in Downtown informal cruise from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The public is invited to show off their "wheels" by cruising the downtown loop after the parade watch party.

The Second Annual Heartland Park Topeka Foundation NHRA Celebrity Golf Tournament will be played on Wednesday, May 25 at the Shawnee Country Club. NHRA drivers, including Top Fuel pilot David Grubnic and Top Fuel Funny Car driver Ron Capps, will hit the links with sponsors and fans starting at 1:30 p.m.

The 17th Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Summer Nationals presented by Castrol GTX kicks off on Thursday, May 26 with Sportsman racing at 9:00 a.m. Gates open at 8:00 a.m. and admission is just $10 all day.

Sportsman racing continues on Friday, May 27 starting at 9:00 a.m. The first of two qualifying sessions gets started with nitro-fueled classes at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday May 28 nitro fills the air once again for the second and final day of qualifying for Top Fuel and Funny Car at noon and 3:00 p.m. Following the day's activities Budweiser will sponsor a free concert in the pit area.

Sunday is final eliminations day, with opening ceremonies scheduled for 10:00 a.m. The first round of racing begins at 11:00 a.m.

Free spectator parking is available by entering at Gate A or B. Tickets for all four days of the 17th Annual O'Reilly Summer Nationals are still available at the Heartland Park Topeka ticket office or by calling 862-RACE or 800-43-RACES. Advance tickets will be available until Wednesday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m. Additionally, tickets may be purchased at the Heartland Park Topeka ticket office the day of the event.

Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, Championship OFF-Road Racing (CORR), and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) in addition to many other events throughout the race season.
