GOODYEAR SPORTSMAN DRAG RACING TIRES TALK OF THE PITS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 16, 2009) -- Give Brian Forrester a car, any car. Then give him a set of Goodyear Eagle D2532 rear drive tires.

Forrester won his second victory in as many years in the AC Delco NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway, but his win Sunday came in the Super Comp category of the NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. His 2008 win came in Super Gas, the same category in which he won last year's national championship.

Forrester said the D2532 played an important role in his latest win.

"Our 60-foot times didn't vary by more than a hundredth (of a second) all day, all weekend, actually," Forrester said. "From the worst run to the best run, it stayed within a hundredth. Left lane to right lane, it didn't vary."

Forrester was one of three Sportsman drivers to race to a victory in the Gatornationals on Goodyear tires. The others were Duane Shields (Top Alcohol Dragster) and David Eaton (Competition Eliminator).

The D2532 was introduced during the 2008 season. It measures 33.5 inches tall and 17 inches across the tread. It mounts on a 16-inch wheel.

Forrester said he raced in the Super Comp category at the Gatornationals because the Super Gas category was not part of the event for 2009.

Shields won the Top Alcohol Dragster final while racing on a set of Goodyear D1230 rear drive tires and Castellana used a set of D1230's in his winning Pro Mod effort.

The semi-finals of the TAD competition were an all-Goodyear affair and Shields had to beat Bill Reichert, the defending world champion, in the final round.

"When you're running the defending world champion, you're always going to be a leery person," Shields said. "We had just (posted a faster time) the round before, so we felt comfortable going in. When you're running on Goodyears and they're the traction tire, you throw a lot at it."

But Shields stopped short of talking about replacing Reichert as the TAD champ.

"I'm not going there," Shields said. "I'm going to have fun and we're going to see how the points turn out. But, I'll say we're running well."
