National Hot Rod Association: Goodyear tires helped set three national records and Goodyear-shod cars won six classes as the NHRA kicked off its 2003 season with the K&N Filters Winternationals at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif.

Warren Johnson set a speed record in the Pro Stock class when he registered a speed of 204.91 mph, Tony Bartone got his record with an elapsed time of 5.227 seconds in Top Alcohol Dragster and backed the record up with a 5.25-second run and Al Corda became the first Stock Eliminator driver to record a sub-10 second run in a national event when he was clocked at 9.90 seconds.

In the pro classes, Johnson won the Pro Stock final, Larry Dixon won the Top Fuel final after winning the Bud Shootout earlier in the weekend and Tony Pedregon won the Funny Car class.

The sportsman classes featured some tremendous competition. After Bartone set his national record, he had his hands full beating Morgan Lucas in the final round of their class. Bartone edged Lucas with a victory margin of .0078 seconds. Bartone became the first driver to hold both the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car records at the same time.

Randy Jones won the Competition Eliminator final and Jeff Lane won in Super Stock.

Goodyear-equipped cars went undefeated in the final rounds of Competition Eliminator of national events in 2002.
