The "World's Fastest Schoolteacher" had a record-setting day in Pomona at the Winternationals. Gary Densham is now the fastest Funny Car driver as he took the Ford Mustang to a national speed record at 326.87 mph. His career best speed was 324.98.

Since joining John Force Racing, Densham has been on a fast train -- winning NHRA events, being the number one qualifier and setting track records.

"No doubt about it, that car was flying," said Densham.

Today was the final qualifications and even with the fast speed, Densham still did not get the No. 1 qualifier position. That honor goes to Densham's team owner, John Force who holds the national elapsed time record at 4.731 set last year.

"I am very happy for Gary," said Force. "We are just trying to win a drag race." [reference to the Winternationals]

Early predictions was for close competition in the Funny Car division and today proved true. This could be a sign of a record-setting year.
