BARTONE POSTS FIRST ROUND FINISH

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 18) -- Tony Bartone, driver of the Jim Dunn-owned Chevrolet Monte Carlo Funny Car was defeated in the first round of eliminations at the 38th annual ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway by drag racing veteran, Ron Capps.

When the pair matched up in their competitive first round, Bartone launched hard receiving get his best 60 foot time of the weekend, but dropped a cylinder around midway through the run thus resulting in a loss of power. Capps won the round with an elapsed time of 4.787 seconds, 326.08 mph to Bartone's time of 5.282 seconds, 201.49 mph.

Bartone will get his chance to redeem himself and the Jim Dunn Lucas Oil Funny Car Chevrolet team in two weeks for the running of the 20th annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals at the Houston Raceway Park on March 30 -- April 1.

ESPN2 is airing the final round results on Sunday, March 18, at 5 p.m. EDT with a two-hour program.
