RAIN TAKES OUT FIRST DAY OF QUALIFYING

GAINESVILLE, Fla., March 14 - The opening day of qualifying for the ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway was wiped out here Friday due to rain. Like in Phoenix three weeks ago when the first day of action was cancelled, U.S. Army Top Fuel driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher will now have just two qualifying sessions to try and earn a spot in the 16-car race day field.

"We'll have to take the same approach as we did last time," said the five-time world champion. "In the first run, we'll certainly want to get down the track without pushing the envelope very much before coming back to play in the last round."

Schumacher, who came into the weekend holding a one-point advantage over Larry Dixon in the standings, will be looking to defend his 2007 Gatornationals title come Sunday.

"It would be terrific if we can win back-to-back races here in Gainesville," he added. "This race is so important to all of the drivers. It's definitely one of the crown jewels on the POWERade Series."
