Humphreys sidelined by mechanical trouble; severe tire shake forces Humphreys to abort run early

GAINESVILLE, Fla., March 15, 2009 -- A problem Sunday with the drive shaft in Justin Humphreys' RaceRedi Pontiac GXP caused severe tire shake and Justin Humphreys aborted his first-round Pro Stock race against Jeg Coughlin in the ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.

The shake began almost immediately as the car made a left-hand move toward the wall and Humphreys coasted to the finish line in 14.610 seconds at 57.76 mph. Coughlin won with a 6.659 at 208.10.

"Our team made a mistake on the drive shaft and it bit us early," said Humphreys, of Monrovia, Md. "We found it when we got back to the pits. We're still figuring out the horsepower in our new Bob Book engine.

"All-in-all, we were happy to qualify in our first NHRA Full Throttle Series race of the season and run as good as we did. We are looking forward to our next race in Houston (March 25-27)."
