GAINESVILLE, FLA. - Tough conditions didn't allow much room for improvement, and as a result, an impressive run on Friday qualifying stood as their best for the high-profile team of Brad Jeter and Jerry Haas at the NHRA Mac Tools Gatornationals. Jeter, in a Chevrolet S-10, claimed the third spot out of 37 entries in the highly competitive Pro Stock Truck division.
Conditions were much warmer on Saturday in Gainesville than they were on Friday. The majority of entries in the Pro Stock Truck division were unable to improve. The Greenville, SC.-based, driver had recorded a 7.521/178.59 during the second session.
He opened Saturday qualifying with a 7.555/177.72, which was one of the quicker laps of the session. Jeter retained his third spot.
In the final session, he failed to improve with a 7.60 elapsed time. He retained the third spot and is scheduled to face John Coughlin in the first round.
Jeter is very much pleased with the team's ability to settle into one of the top spots among the 37 entries in attendance.
"We worked real hard to earn this spot," explained Jeter, who finished in second place in the points standings last season. "Consistency is on our wish list for tomorrow and we plan to go out there and give it our best. My crew will provide me with an excellent vehicle, so the workload will be on my shoulders as a driver."
Team owner and crewchief Haas foresees and excellent showing for the team in Sunday's final eliminations.
"I am well-pleased with what transpired in qualifying," explained Haas. "There's no reason why we shouldn't do very well tomorrow. Brad's a good driver, he'll take advantage of his position."
Final eliminations are slated for tomorrow.
