Anderson qualifies number 2; meets Krisher in Round 1 at Gators.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Greg Anderson arrived at the 34th annual Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. in what many would consider an enviable position. Fresh off a win in Phoenix and leading the Pro Stock points many people would think that Anderson would feel comfortable with their chances of qualifying for the Gators, but that is not the case for Anderson and the Las Vegas Construction race team.

"The way Pro Stock racing is right now you have to continuously look for an edge," said Anderson of Concord, N.C. "With 40 plus cars showing up at every event, if you relax even a little bit you will not be racing on Sunday.

"We had a good couple of weeks of work at the shop. We have made good gains in both the car and the engine department. That gave us a certain amount of comfort coming into this race, but we never take that comfort level for granted."

It is apparent that Anderson's two weeks of hard work paid off here at the Gatornationals. In the second session of qualifying on Friday, Anderson recorded a 6.788 / 203.43 mph, which eventually placed him in the second position on Sunday's eliminations ladder.

"This Grand Am is a great racecar. This winter I was scared of switching from Chevrolet to Pontiac, but I was wrong. I am very happy with my guys, and how everything is coming together. I have a great car and a great crew. The work and the testing we have done has really paid off for us. So far this weekend we have preformed well, but the weekend is not over yet, we still have to race tomorrow.

When eliminations get underway Sunday morning, Anderson opponent in Round 1 will be Ron Krisher.

"There is not a single driver in this class that you can take for granted. The old saying that you have to take it one round at a time is true. If I can get past Krisher then we will go from there. But realistically, I feel like if we can keep our momentum going I think we have a pretty good chance of taking this Las Vegas Construction Pontiac Grand Am to the winner's circle here at the Mac Tools Gatornationals."

Eliminations at the 34th annual Mac Tools Gatornationals will begin at 11:00 AM EST on Sunday March 16.
