GAINESVILLE, Fla., March 16, 2003 - Doug Herbert was succinct in his Gatornationals performance evaluation following his quarterfinal loss to David Baca Sunday at Gainesville Raceway.

"We didn't do anything right," said the driver of the Snap-on Racing Top Fuel dragster. "We are going to stay here and test Monday to be sure the car will go down the race track."

The car did go down the track during qualifying, registering two 4.556-second runs that put him No. 4 in the starting lineup - his best of the 2003 NHRA POWERade Series.

"We were lucky in the first round because (Paul) Romine red lit and we had an engine explosion," Herbert continued. "Then we smoked the tires in the next round (against Dennis Baca). It was disappointing."

Herbert's car slowed to an 8.113 at 96.29 mph in beating Romine, who was one-thousandth of a second shy of a perfect .000 start.

Even so, Herbert did manage to move up to eighth place in the standings. He has 140 points while pacesetter Larry Dixon has 286.

After a two-week break, the team begins a string of seven races in nine weeks with the Summitracing.com Nationals at Las Vegas, April 4-6, followed by the O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston, April 11-13.
