Millican and Team Werner to Race at NHRA Gatornationals
Chicago - March 14, 2005 Lehman Racing has announced that they will unveil the team's 2005 Werner Enterprises Top Fuel dragster at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., on March 17-20, where driver Clay Millican will race in his second NHRA event of the season.
"I'm excited for our second race of the season, and our first with Team Werner this year. We have a strong history together," said Millican. "I hope our team can continue to run as consistently as we did in Pomona earlier this year."
Millican raced in the NHRA season-opener in Pomona last month with Team 104+ Performance Additives/Lehman Racing, qualifying in the number 10 position and defeating Doug Kalitta in the first round of eliminations to advance to the quarterfinals. Additionally, he achieved his third-quickest career elapsed time and second fastest miles per hour mark, 4.519 seconds and 329.91, respectively, during qualifying.
Millican will look to build on that momentum in Gainesville. This year's race marks his fourth time to compete at the NHRA Gatornationals, as he also raced there in 2001, 2002, and 2003. His best-ever qualifying position was fifth in 2003.
Following the first race of the season, Millican held the number eight spot in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings. He has since moved to 13th since he did not compete in the national event in Phoenix, and will look to move back into the top 10 with a strong performance in Gainesville.
Werner Car In addition to a limited NHRA schedule that currently includes at least six national events, Millican is the four-time International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Top Fuel Champion and winningest professional driver in IHRA history with 37 Top Fuel career victories to his name. Team Werner/Lehman Racing will begin their quest for a fifth consecutive title on March 31- April 2 at the IHRA Amalie Oil Texas Nationals in San Antonio, Texas.
