JOHNSON JR. MAKES FOUR CONSISTENT QUALIFYING PASSES EN ROUTE TO NO. 6 SPOT AT RACEWAY PARK

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 17, 2005) -- Tommy Johnson Jr. saved his best for last as the Skoal RacingSM driver powered to a performance of 4.807-seconds to claim the No. 6 qualifying position Saturday at historic Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Johnson drove his Mike Green/Johnny West-tuned Skoal Racing flopper to the third quickest pass of Saturday's opening qualifying session when the six-time NHRA winner recorded a performance of 4.924 seconds at 306.95 mph.

The Iowa native then powered to the quickest elapsed time of the final Funny Car qualifying session to remain in the No. 6 position when the Skoal Racing flopper raced to a run of 4.807 seconds at 322.50, Johnson's quickest pass of the weekend.

"It's been a long time since I've had a car this consistent and competitive," Johnson said. "To put four runs together like that helps build your confidence for race day. I'm feeling confident about getting the Skoal Racing Chevy into the final round and taking home the Father's Day win for my dad."

For the second consecutive week, Johnson will battle Tim Wilkerson (No. 11 qualifier) in the opening round of flopper eliminations. Johnson ran his career mark to 7-3 versus the fellow Chevy driver when he edged Wilkerson in the first round of eliminations last Sunday at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.
