Team Jeg's ready to roll in Englishtown.
The skies cleared and the smoke billowed from the Goodyear Racing Slicks as Team Jeg's and the remainder of the Pro Stock field took to the quarter-mile at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park for Saturday's rounds of qualifying. Team Jeg's drivers Jeg and Troy Coughlin entered the day out of the quick sixteen qualifiers. Both drivers were looking for good outings on Saturday, as they began their quest for a victory in Englishtown, New Jersey.
Troy Coughlin was first to roll into action for Team Jeg's on Saturday. Troy posted one of the strongest runs of the session with a blistering 6.834 second pass at 201.64 mph.
"It was pretty important for us to make a good run that session," said Troy. "We were able to post a pretty solid time despite loosing some traction. It was definitely the kind of run we were looking for."
Jeg Coughlin also had high hopes of posting a big number in Saturday's first session. The Jeg's Mail Order machine experienced pretty severe tire shake in the first 100 feet. Jeg stayed in the throttle and was able to manage a respectable 6.889 second pass at 200.86 mph.
"We really just got too aggressive with that run," commented Jeg. "The track conditions were such that we had a pretty small tuning window. We just gave the track a little more than it could hold."
Jeg Coughlin entered the fourth and final qualifying session with his back against the wall. Jeg entered the session not qualified, and was needing a strong performance if he were to compete for another win in Englishtown.
Team Jeg's answered the call to action posting their strongest pass of the weekend with a clutch 6.778 second run at 202.52 mph. Jeg Jr's pass was the quickest of the session.
"It's never too much fun entering the final session not qualified," said Jeg. "Our team kept their cool and delivered when it counted. Now that qualifying is behind us, we will focus our attention to race day."
Troy followed up with another fine performance, posting a weekend's best 6.794 second run at 203.03 mph.
"There was quite a shake up in the field in the final session," explained Troy. "We were out of the show by the time it was our turn to take to the track. Our guys delivered with a great run that was fastest for the session."
Jeg and Troy are qualified in the 2nd and 7th positions respectively. Jeg will face off against Ron Krisher in first round eliminations on Sunday. Troy squares off against Kurt Johnson
Coverage of Sunday's eliminations begins on ESPN2 from 7-10p.m. ET.
