ROOKIE HAGAN DRIVES FREIGHTLINER FUNNY CAR INTO NO. 11 IN E-TOWN QUALIFYING

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 13, 2009) - Running a new Freightliner Trucks scheme on the Shelor.com Funny Car he drives for Don Schumacher Racing, NHRA Rookie-of-the-Year contender Matt Hagan qualified No. 11 for the NHRA SuperNationals before rain cancelled the final qualifying round.

Hagan's quick pass of 4.244 seconds at 286.74 mph came in today's third and final qualifying session, which followed a 4.592/197.16 (No. 6) and 6.380/100.94 (No. 13) on Friday. He faces Del Worsham in the opening round of Sunday's eliminations.

"With only three rounds of qualifying, I think that we got a decent baseline to go off of for tomorrow," said the 26-year-old Hagan. "We have Del Worsham first round tomorrow. He ran a 4.21 in the heat of the day and we ran a 4.24. He's going to have lane choice so I know Tommy (DeLago, crew chief) is going to be a little conservative with the Freightliner car to make sure it goes down the track. We expect it will be the same conditions that we saw this weekend during the heat of the day.

"We'll go out there, let the clutch out and see what happens. Right now we don't have a whole lot of data to go off of because the track was pretty tricky yesterday. We smoked the tires twice, and then we got down earlier today.

"We have one good run to go off of and hopefully we can turn things around and our three straight first-round loss deal will be long behind us now."
