ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 18, 2004) - Larry Dixon drove his Don "the Snake" Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite dragster to the No. 9 qualifying spot Friday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park after posting a run of 4.710 seconds at 310.34 mph.

Dixon used a Dick LaHaie-tune-up to post the 4.710 at 310.34 on his opening qualifying effort of the weekend on a hot Raceway Park quarter mile that reached 120 degrees in the afternoon. On Friday's final qualifying pass, the two-time defending NHRA Top Fuel champion powered to a consistent pass of 4.731 at 309.49 with two additional qualifying sessions scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

"I think they setup the car to run between a 4.65 and a 4.70 on the opening run and it ran a 4.71," Dixon said. "We got down the track on both passes on Friday and I hope that's something that we can build upon. Our goal on Saturday is to improve our qualifying position."

Dixon, who raced to victory at the New Jersey facility during his Rookie of the Year campaign in 1995, looks to move into the top half of the Top Fuel order when nitro qualifying continues with runs at 1 and 4 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.

ESPN2 will televise two hours of qualifying highlights from the K&N Filters SuperNationals at 6 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, June 19 and show two hours of final elimination coverage at 5 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, June 20.
