Jeg Coughlin Is Showing More Strength On Race Day

In the opening round Jeg Coughlin went head-to-head against Gene Wilson. The match up pitted a Chevy against a Dodge.

Wilson fouled out by .011 seconds and turned on the win light for Jeg before the yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier ever left the starting line. The 2002 NHRA Pro Stock POWERade champion posted a run of 6.713 at 205.01 mph. The run was the second quickest of the round.

"The new engine we are running this weekend is getting better with each run we make," said Jeg.

In the second round Jeg faced Warren Johnson. Once again, nerves got the better of the driver in the other lane. WJ fouled out and Jeg posted a run of 6.713 at 204.88 mph. The run was the second quickest of the round.

"We are making good decisions as a group and we are getting back into our familiar groove," commented Jeg after the second round win.

The semifinal round put Jeg and Darrell Alderman head-to-head. Coughlin had lane choice for the third straight round and stayed with the right lane.

The JEG'S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier rocketed off of the starting line with authority. The car went out of the groove on the left side of the right lane (330-feet) and was close to crossing the center stripe. Coughlin stayed with it as long as he could before pushing the clutch pedal in and coasting to the finish line.

"I stayed with it as long as I could," said Jeg. "The last thing on my mind during a race on Sunday is shutting off and it is a feeling that is hard to describe. The important thing is we are moving in the right direction as a team and that is a good feeling for everyone involved with our program from top to bottom."
