** National Hot Rod Association: Goodyear-equipped teams won seven times in the K&N Filters NHRA Super Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. That brings Goodyear’s seasonal total to an industry-leading 47 wins in NHRA national competition. Goodyear sportsman teams alone have won 23 final rounds in NHRA national events, also the best among tiremakers.
Greg Anderson set new national records for elapsed time and top speed in Pro Stock. Anderson’s records are 6.670 seconds and 207.18 mph. He also won the final round.
One of the best races of the day came in the Super Gas final, where Jim Smulligan defeated Jeff Brooks by just .0171 of a second, or about four feet.
Tony Bartone won the Top Alcohol Dragster final, beating Douglas Foley Bartone’s winning run was clocked at 5.342 seconds (275.06 mph). Don Garbinski won the Super Street title and Billy Griffin won in Competition Eliminator.
In the professional ranks, Doug Kalitta posted the best elapsed time of the meet (4.48 seconds) and best top speed (328 mph) on his way to winning the Top Fuel trophy. Kalitta beat Larry Dixon in the final.
