RIVAS HEADS TO ENGLISHTOWN A WINNER
LOOKS FOR TWO IN A ROW FOR G2 MOTORSPORTS V-TWIN
ENGLISHTOWN, N.J., June 17, 2008 - Chris Rivas rides the G2 Motorsports/Drag Specialties/S&S Cycle
V-Twin this weekend looking for a second-consecutive win on the National Hot Rod Association POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle tour in the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals here at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Rivas's confidence is high following a solid weekend during the season's last event in Joliet, Ill., where he had the quickest elapsed time in the last three qualifying sessions, including earning his first career pole position, and recorded the first victory of his career.
"I was confident before the last race and with our solid performance at Joliet and the team's past success at Englishtown, I am even more confident for this race," said the 41-year-old Fresno, Calif., native. "Last year, (crew chief) George Smith and the G2 Motorsports/Drag Specialties/S&S Cycle team was the most consistent qualifier for the this race, winning the Full Throttle Pit Crew Championship award.
"The guys continue to make our motorcycle better and more consistent, having solved the early-season gremlins which kept us from moving past the second round at any race. Joliet's win proved we have been on the right track."
The Joliet win jumped Rivas two spots in the 2008 POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle championship to fifth place where his 309 points put him 173 behind the leader. A rider must be in the top 10 at the conclusion of the 12th race of the season - the sport's premier event, the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals Labor Day weekend in Indianapolis - to qualify for the five-race Countdown to the Championship, essentially the NHRA POWERade playoffs.
