Del Worsham enters the NHRA SuperNationals in ninth place in the NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car point standings. He trails ninth place Tony Pedregon by 23 points and eighth-place Tim Wilkerson by 33 points. Worsham leads 11th place Jeff Arend by 33 points.
Worsham has been a solid qualifier this year. In the season's first 10 races, he has qualified in the top five six times; his average qualifying position is 6.00.
Last year at Englishtown, Worsham qualified sixth; he beat Matt Hagan before losing to Tony Pedregon in the second round of eliminations. Worsham won races at Englishtown in 1991 and 2005.
Worsham was the No. 9 qualifier last weekend in Joliet, Ill. He lost to Tim Wilkerson in the first round of eliminations. Worsham is still seeking his first win of the season; he won three races last year visiting victory circle in Madison, Ill., Bristol, Tenn. and Richmond, Va.
Worsham has 25 wins in his Funny Car career; he is seventh on the NHRA's all-time Funny Car wins list trailing sixth place Cruz Pedregon by just one win.
Worsham prior to Englishtown:
"Our Al-Anabi Toyota has been making some solid progress in the last few races; we've been trying to become a more consistent race team. We've made some good progress, but we have to keep working until we get back to the kind of racing we all want. The good news is that we are in a busy stretch of races so we have another chance to get better this weekend. I know all of the Al-Anabi guys are trying as hard as they can to make us competitive again, and I really appreciate all of their hard work. Some round wins this weekend would be a good reward for all of their effort."
