ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (May 17, 2003) -- With both of Friday's qualifying sessions canceled due to a light rain, David Baca, driver of the Henkelman & Baca American Racing/Waterloo Tool Storage Top Fuel Dragster, used the remaining two Saturday sessions to prepare for this weekend's 34th annual NHRA K&N Filters SuperNationals presented by Pep Boys.

He blazed down the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park with a final pass of 4.552 seconds at 322.81 mph, a career best speed. The pass landed Baca, from Brentwood, Calif., in the fourth qualifying position.

"Wow! Going from in to out then back to number four," said Baca. "What a day. Another one of those Saturdays where everything gets mixed up. Number four is a-okay especially with a rain-shortened weekend.

"We were on a good pass on the first today when the blower belt broke. We put the wood to it that last time. It carried the front end nice, rattled a little and then pulled right through it. I think I even ran my best speed ever."

In the first time the two have ever met, the rookie Baca will face Scott Weis in the opening round of eliminations tomorrow. Weis qualified 13th with a run of 4.804 seconds at 244.78 mph.

Eliminations begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
