INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 18, 2007) -- Cruz Pedregon, the Advance Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car driver, is optimistic as he travels to the NHRA ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals at the legendary Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., June 21-24, 2007, for the 10th event of the $50 million, 23-event NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
The legendary Old Bridge Township Raceway Park is a special place for "The Cruzer". He stepped into the Winner's Circle in 1995 with the McDonald's Funny Car and in 2000 Pedregon emerged victorious over John Force in a dramatic final round showdown. It was an emotional first event win in his first year as a car owner.
"Of all the drag strips we visit, Old Bridge Township Raceway Park is one of my sentimental favorites," explained Cruz Pedregon. "Racing here reminds me of drag racing in Southern California in the 70's, with large crowds and some of the most enthusiastic fans around. The Knapp family really pulls all the stops to entertain the fans."
Fresh off a top-eight finish at the NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway, Pedregon is looking to move up in the 2007 NHRA POWERade Countdown Standings. If past history is any indication, Englishtown just might be the place to make that move.
"We found some momentum in Chicago that we'll take to Englishtown and hopefully on to the Winner's Circle," stated Pedregon. "We'll be looking to take advantage of the cooler track temperatures during Friday night's qualifying session to put this Advance Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car on the pole."
Pedregon is 10th in the Countdown to the Championship, just 23 points from the top 8 Funny Car drivers with just eight races until the end of the regular season. The Countdown to 4, the first round of the new playoffs, begins with the U.S. Nationals, August 29 -- September 3.
