Cruz Pedregon -Back On Track
Englishtown, NJ, June 14, 2004 - Heading into the halfway point of the season, former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts team head east for the NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, NJ. It's a sentimental place for Pedregon because of the amount of success he's been able to accomplish in his 11 starts at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Pedregon has qualified sixth or better at 10 of the events, earning the top qualifier award at two of those ('92, '98) with an overall average qualifying start of fourth. He's earned two victories ('95, '00) and a runner up finish ('99) and has advanced to the semifinals three times.
"There's no doubt that Englishtown has been very good to me," said Pedregon. "We've always been able to put together a set up that worked for that track. I enjoy going there not only because of the success I've had but because it's a great facility. We're hoping to continue the streak of success we've had there this weekend."
Coming off his best qualifying effort of the season in Columbus, Ohio this past weekend, where he earned his first low-qualifier award since the 1998 NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., with a career best and track record elapsed time of 4.769 seconds, this team hopes to carry that momentum over to Englishtown and continue through the rest of the season.
"We knew we had a fast race car," said Pedregon. "We've just been dealing with gremlins and we've finally been able to get past them. We showed what this car was capable of doing in Columbus and it was a big boost to this whole team. I'm very excited about getting back on the track, and taking that run and building on it."
