Cruz Pedregon - Confidence Is Building

Englishtown, NJ, June 18, 2004 - Former Funny Car champion continued his qualifying dominance today for the NHRA Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Pedregon clocked an elapsed time of 4.885 seconds at 293.09 mph during the evening session to position the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Monte Carlo third.

"We had a hot and humid day today and the conditions were fair," explained Pedregon. "During the evening session, we had our car set up to run a low 4.80 but we had a cylinder drop at about 2.5 seconds and then broke a header near the finish line. We were still able to put up a solid number and qualify our car well. Tomorrow we're going to work with the weather conditions and try and improve on our qualifying time."

Eric Medlen posted an elapsed time of 4.830 seconds at 317.72 mph to take the top spot. Pedregon's teammate and brother Tony Pedregon qualified 2nd with an elapsed time of 4.856 seconds at 305.01 mph.

Two more qualifying sessions are scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. (ET). Final eliminations will be held on Sunday, June 20, beginning at 11:00 a.m. (ET).

ESPN2 will televise two hours of qualifying coverage on Saturday June 19, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (ET). Television coverage of final eliminations can be seen on Sunday, June 20, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (ET) on ESPN.
