EARLVILLE, Iowa - One week after a frustrating outing in Indianapolis, Defending three-time NHRA Division 5 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion David Wells hopes to start a late season rally during this weekend's Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series closer at Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, Iowa. In addition to gaining on current points leader Alan Bradshaw, Wells and his Blue Bunny Ice Cream/"Plain Vanilla" team hopes to perform well in front of their home state fans.

Wells, who helps run the family's ice cream plant in LeMars, Iowa, ran strong numbers last weekend at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, but was crippled by parts breakage, eventually leading to him pulling out of the event. Wells feels the problem is linked to a bad batch of bearings.

"We ran some good numbers, but we kept on spinning rod bearings," said Wells. "We looked things over, and eventually found out that we might have had a bad batch of bearings. We've got one motor put back together for this weekend, so I think we are looking pretty good."

"The car is running very well, and if we can just get rid of the parts breakage problems, I think we can run with just about anybody," added Wells. "It feels good to finally be back at the level we feel we should be."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, followed by two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
