DON PRUDHOMME RACING RELEASES MELANIE TROXEL FROM DEVELOPMENT CONTRACT
VISTA, CA (July 1, 2005) -- Don Prudhomme Racing announced today that it is immediately releasing NHRA top fuel driver Melanie Troxel from the development contract which both parties agreed to at the start of the 2005 season.
By releasing Troxel from this agreement, Don Prudhomme Racing relinquishes its exclusive rights to Troxel as a driver, now making her available to any other teams that may wish to pursue her services or include her in presentations to prospective sponsors.
"Basically, we are terminating this contract in order to make Melanie a free agent," said team owner Don Prudhomme. "When we first partnered up with Melanie, there were two main objectives. First, we believed and continue to believe that Melanie represents the total package when it comes to owning the various characteristics it takes to be a successful driver in motorsports today. We felt it was terribly wrong that she has not yet been given the opportunity to drive full time with a fully-sponsored team."
"Second, we hoped that we would be able to create a partnership between Melanie and a new, mainstream sponsor that would see the unique value in her and capitalize on those opportunities to not only help our team, but to help grow the sport of NHRA POWERade drag racing," said Prudhomme.
"By releasing Melanie, we want her to be able to pursue the driving opportunities that currently exist within NHRA," Prudhomme added. "We have always had her best interest in mind as we have attempted to field a car for her to drive. While we will continue our efforts to help identify potential sponsors, when opportunities arise with other teams, we do not want to stand in the way of her realizing her goal of becoming a full-time NHRA driver."
"Ultimately, whether Melanie is driving for Don Prudhomme Racing or some other NHRA team, we are confident that she will do a great job. We are also hopeful that whomever she drives for will make the most of her talents in an effort to create more interest in our sport and for the betterment of all racers."
