Cerny joins Herbert'S Snap-On Team as tuning consultant.

MADISON, Ill., June 29, 2002 - Doug Herbert announced the signing of Wes Cerny as tuning consultant on the Snap-on Racing Top Fuel dragster.

Cerny, from Fallbrook, Calif., has been involved in drag racing for more than 30 years and is recognized as one of the sport's foremost tunerS of nitromethane-fueled engines used in Top Fuel and Funny Cars. He will team with Johnny West, Herbert's crew chief, on tuning decisions.

"We are very fortunate to be able to add Wes as a consultant," said Herbert. "He's a veteran guy who has seen virtually everything that can happen to these engines. He knows what to do because he is so experienced. There's no handbook for tuning these cars and experience is the only advantage a person might have."

On Friday night, Cerny and West combined to propel Herbert into the No. 2 qualifying position for Sunday's Sears Craftsman Nationals. Herbert's 4.653-second run was bested only by Andrew Cowin's 4.635.

Cerny will continue to tune Cory McClenathan's Top Fuel dragster.
