NHRA Champ and current points leader Larry Dixon happy after Gainesville testing.

Gainesville, FL (March 18) -- On the heels of his semifinal finish at Sunday's Mac Tools Gatornationals, defending NHRA POWERade Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon and the Don Prudhomme Snake Racing Miller Lite Dragster held test sessions Monday at Gainesville Raceway.

Crew Chief Dick LaHaie was able to get Dixon down the track in the 4.5-second range the entire weekend in Florida, however in the ultra-competitive Top Fuel category, 4.5-second laps do not always guarantee round wins. With that said, the need to improve performance is always the top priority and LaHaie felt additional testing was needed.

A total of three test laps we made by Dixon on Monday. While the first pass resulted in a shaking and tire-smoking ride for Dixon, he followed that up with a 1,000-foot run of 4.59 seconds (280 mph) and a final 1,000-foot squirt which clocked in at 4.56 seconds (290 mph).

"I think the testing went real well," said Dixon. "We were looking for ways to improve our performance following last weekend and I think that the things we learned will help us when we get back out on the track in Las Vegas."
