Gainesville Debut gives Harker-Meyer Team a Solid Season Start
Gainesville, FL -- Australian Rookie driver, Diana Harker made her season debut at this past weekend's NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL March 13-16 with a solid start for the Lend America and Randy Meyer Racing A/Fuel Dragster Team.
After making successful passes at the Eastern Spring Test Nationals in Valdosta, GA the Harker-Meyer team headed to their first NHRA National event with much hope and anticipation, however Friday's qualifying was cancelled due to rain leaving the team with only two runs on Saturday to make the 16 car field.
Conditions slightly improved for Saturday's qualifying sessions and Harker moved into the field in the 11th position after the first session with a 6.53et at 157mph pass. The tricky weather conditions did not ease going into the final session, giving the Harker-Meyer Team trouble as again Harker's car dropped cylinders at the hit and never recovered. Only slightly improving on their previous run with a 6.09et at 221mph pass putting them right on the bump in 16th position and looking to take on number 1 qualifier, Morgan Lucas 5.30et at 268mph in the first round.
Racers and fans were greeted with blue skies and sunshine on Sunday morning for the first round of the Top Alcohol classes, and Harker's match up against current Division Four Champion and number one qualifier, Morgan Lucas was set to be a tough race.
Harker made the first move, taking a holeshot over Lucas on the start line however both driver's experienced serve tire shake in the first 100ft and Lucas, the more experienced of the two drivers was quick to recover and drive round Harker taking the win with a blistering 5.32et at 264mph pass to Harker's 6.34et at 165mph.
"It's been a great experience for us here this weekend, having found ourselves a little lost on the tune-up and also learning to pedal my way through tire shake so I can honestly say its been a huge learning curve for our team. Overall it was a fantastic weekend for our sponsors Lend America, Hedman Hedders, Aeromotive, Seal Gunk, Taylor Cables, Aeroquip and Meyer Truck Centre. It feels great to be back in the driver's seat and I loved every minute being out there on the track and now we're looking forward to moving onto our next race." Said Harker.
The Harker-Meyer Team move on to the O'Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston, TX March 28-30 where Diana will be joined by her father Steve in the Top Alcohol Funny Car Class.
