Troxel's Superb Saturday Puts Her No. 2 for Mile-High Nationals

DENVER, July 12, 2008 -- Melanie Troxel was all smiles Saturday evening at Bandimere Speedway as qualifying concluded for Sunday's Mopar Mile-High Nationals -- and for very good reasons.

An excellent performance from Troxel and the Gotham City Racing Dodge R/T Funny Car team put her in the No. 2 starting position in front of her many fans and friends at the hometown track where she began her driving career. Flawless 1000-foot runs of 4.244 seconds at 295.85 mph and 4.226 at 297.42 mph (fastest speed of the event) verified what Troxel, crew chiefs Brian Corradi, Mike Oswald and the crew believed Friday night -- they have a very competitive race car.

"With the exception of the driver making a mistake Friday night, we had three great runs and the team is confident going into race day," said Troxel. "We were consistent and we will be competitive."

Her first-round foe is veteran Gary Densham (No. 15, 4.298 seconds at 287.23 mph).

"To be able to run like this in front of my friends and family is very enjoyable," Troxel added. "We only have one hometown race a year and we are happy" with the way things have gone so far.
