Whisnant is looking forward to Denver
MORRISON, Colo. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Chevrolet Cavalier, is one of the few Pro Stock racers that looks forward to attending the 24th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver, Colo.
"I think Denver has been given a bad rap," said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "Everyone dreads coming to Denver, but I have always done pretty well here.
"Denver's bad reputation comes from the high altitude and the conditions we have to race under. Everyone will be down 300 horsepower, not just us. So to be successful in Denver you have to be able to change your tune-up for the conditions you have. That is the same thing we do at every race. The only difference is that the changes we make for this weekend will be more extreme.
"My crew chiefs Markus Svensson and Gary Pearman have made many trips up this mountain. They know the track well, and will know what this Cavalier will need to qualify.
"I feel good about Denver, and I feel good about our chance of qualifying. This has always been a good race for me, and I don't expect this years race to be any different."
Qualifying at the 24th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals will begin on July 18, and continue on July 18. Eliminations will take place Sunday July 20 at 12:30 MT.
