Dave Grubnic leads Team Kalitta qualifying in Denver

MORRISON, Col., (July 14, 2007) -- Native Australian Dave Grubnic, driver of the Zantrex-3 Top Fuel dragster, made his best qualifying effort of the 2007 POWERade Drag Racing Series at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Col., just west of the Denver city limits, Saturday.

In the oxygen-starved air of the Rocky Mountains, Grubnic and his Zantrex-3 team took their 8,000-horsepower entry into the No. 2 (4.612 seconds, 327.82) qualifying spot for tomorrow's 16-car final eliminations. Grubnic will race No. 15 (4.819 sec., 308.43 mph) qualifier Cory McClenathan in the opening round of eliminations.

Grubnic's Team Kalitta Top Fuel teammate Doug Kalitta, driver of the Mac Tools dragster, will also start Sunday's eliminations from the top-half of the field in the No. 7 (4.650 sec., 320.05 mph) qualifying position. Doug will start his quest for the winner's circle at Bandimere by racing against No. 10 (4.670 sec., 308.99 mph) qualifier Larry Dixon in round one.

Doug's Cousin Scott Kalitta, driver of the DHL Toyota Solara Funny Car, qualified his nitro-fueled flopper in the No. 9 (4.924 sec., 311.49 mph) qualifying slot. Scott will face No. 8 (4.922 sec., 300.26 mph) qualifier Tony Bartone in the first round of Funny Car eliminations tomorrow.

Hillary Will, driver of the Kalitta Motorsports-managed, Ken Black-owned KB Racing LLC Top Fueler, qualified in the No. 11 position for eliminations.
