Humphreys loses early but remains in contention for top 10 position

Justin Humphreys gave Jeg Coughlin a serious challenge Sunday in the first roundof the Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, but he wasn't able to stick the nose of his RaceRedi Motorsports Dodge across the finish line first.

"Jeg and I always seem to have good races," Humphreys noted. "He got me on the tree," and that provided the winning margin. Coughlin was timed in 7.040 seconds at 194.32 mph to a 7.044 at 194.77 mph for the Dodge.

The setback didn't affect Humphreys' fight for a spot in the top 10 because the two drivers challenging him also bowed out in the opening round. Humphreys remained 12th with 495 points, 70 behind No. 10.

"We did pick up a few points in qualifying," he added. "Our thanks go to Roy and Allen Johnson. They build the engines fortheDodgeand Mark Ingersoll, their crew chief, was a big help again. We had a good race car."
