Anderson is prepared For Denver
MORRISON, Colo. -- Greg Anderson, driver of the Vegas General Construction Pontiac Grand Am is prepared for this weekend 24th annual Mopar Mile-High Nationals. In past years Anderson has been intimidated by the high altitude conditions found at Bandimere Speedway and dreaded racing in Denver. Thanks to a successful test session earlier this month, Anderson now looks forward to him trip to the mountains.
"I think I am more prepared to race in Denver this year than I have ever been in the past." said Anderson of Charlotte, NC. "I have a pretty poor record here. Last year this racetrack almost got the best of me. I nearly did not qualify here last year, and I am not going to let that happen to me again.
"Denver has never been my favorite race. I have always struggled here. We were determined to change our dismal record here so we came up here last week and tested. We made a lot of gains in our high altitude tune-up. So much that I now am actually looking forward to racing in Denver.
"Denver is a true test of the ability of a tuner. The altitude here is nine to ten thousand feet corrected. That is nothing like we see all year. The altitude really messes things up. The thin air takes down force off the car and actually makes it looser than anywhere else we race. You really have to be on your game to make a Pro Stock car run up here.
"To get the car down this race racetrack you have to change everything, and that is what we did. In an effort to get all we can out of this Grand Am, we have changed everything from the front bumper to the rear bumper. This is a completely different car than we raced in St. Louis, but that is what you have to do to be quick in Denver.
"With the gains we made in testing I think it might give us an edge that we have not had in the past. I think this Vegas General Construction team has what it takes to go the distance in Denver. We're not afraid of this place anymore."
Qualifying at the 24th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals will begin on July 18, and continue on July 18. Eliminations will take place Sunday July 20 at 12:30 MT.
