COLORADO RACERS GROVES AND HAY SCORE WINS ON THE MOUNTAIN
GLENDORA, Calif. (July 13, 2009) -- Ray Groves of Evans, Colo., and Dennis Hay of Golden, Colo., lead the sportsman winners at this past weekend's NHRA Mopar Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway outside Denver.
Groves, in his first final round at an NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event took out 19-time national event winner Gary Stinnett of Emporia, Kan., with a 9.507 elapsed time on a 9.50 index earning the trophy in Super Comp. Hay, of Golden, Colo., faced off against another local racer in Kevin Moore of Littleton, Colo., in the Super Gas final with a near reaction time at 0.002 seconds. The holeshot starting line advantage proved to be the difference as Moore ran right on the index at 10.500 seconds but could not run down Hay.
In Super Stock it was Justin Lamb, Henderson, Nev., taking the win over Tim Nicholson out of Concordia, Kan. This is Lamb's second win of the year as he picked up the win in Comp Eliminator at the NHRA Pacific Divisional event in Las Vegas earlier this year.
Dan Fletcher added to his trophy collection picking up his 61st career national event win on the NHRA circuit running down Doug Young, Grand Junction, Colo., in Stock Eliminator. The win was the Churchville, N.Y., racers fourth at Bandimere Speedway.
The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series heads to Seattle this next weekend, July 17-19, for the NHRA Northwest Nationals.
